What ProsourceFit says about it

ProsourceFit on the regular mat: “Designed to provide full back massage for all body types.”

ProsourceFit on the large one: “Designed to support taller and bigger frames and provides a full-body massage.”

ProsourceFit on the discs, which they call spikes: “Each plastic spike has 27 points.”

ProsourceFit on using it: “Lie or stand on it in the morning.”

ProsourceFit on how long: “as little as 10 minutes per day, or up to 30 minutes per day.”

Mat and pillow

One of each, in the size you choose. The pillow is the same in both sets.

Points on every disc

Every disc is moulded with a ring of raised points — 27 of them, ProsourceFit says.

Removable cover

The foam slides out and the cotton cover hand washes on its own.

Two sizes

Regular, 26½ × 16½ in, or full body, 51 × 19 in.

One of the plastic discs close up: a flat ring of raised, pointed cones around a central hole

The discs

Hard plastic, and plenty of it

The top of the mat and the top of the pillow are covered in moulded plastic discs. Each one carries a ring of raised points ProsourceFit puts it at 27 a disc. That is the whole idea: firm points, pressing wherever you lie or stand.

Firm, not soft. The foam underneath gives a little. The points do not.

On the mat and the pillow. Both pieces carry the same discs.

Easy to clean. A soft brush gets between them, ProsourceFit says.

Two sizes

Back, or back to legs

The same pillow and the same discs either way. The difference is how much of you the mat covers.

ProsourceFit: “Designed to support taller and bigger frames and provides a full-body massage.”

How to use it

Lie on it, stand on it, lean on it

There is nothing to set up and nothing to switch on. Put it down, take your shirt or your shoes off, and use it for a few minutes at a time.

Lie on itMat under your back, pillow under your neck. Start on a bed or a sofa if the floor is too much.
Stand on itProsourceFit suggests standing on it in the morning. Shoes off, weight spread.
Sit back against itProp it behind you on a sofa or a chair and lean back.
After yogaProsourceFit suggests it for “savasana at the end of a yoga session”.

The pillow

Half-round, and covered too

14¾ × 5¾ in  4 in high. Flat underneath so it does not roll, rounded on top, and studded with the same discs as the mat.

Under your head when you lie face down.

On its own, behind you on a chair or a sofa.

ProsourceFit’s washing instructions: remove the foam core and hand wash the cotton cover, turn it inside out if you like, brush the discs, drip dry only — no washing machine, no dryer

Care

Cover off, wash by hand

The foam core slides out of the cotton cover. The cover is a hand wash, and it dries hanging up.

  1. Slide the foam core out of the cover.
  2. Hand wash the cotton cover gently. You can turn it inside out first.
  3. Use a soft brush to clean between the discs.
  4. Drip dry only. No washing machine, no dryer.

Before you buy

What it is, and what it isn’t

If you are pregnant or have a medical or skin condition, ask your doctor before using it.

It is

  • A massage mat and pillow for use at home.
  • Firm plastic points on a foam base.
  • Something you use for minutes at a time ProsourceFit suggests 10 to 30.
  • Hand washable, once the foam is out.

It isn’t

  • It is not a medical device, and it is not meant to diagnose, treat or prevent anything.
  • It is not soft the points stay firm however long you use it.
  • It is not machine washable, and it does not go in a dryer.

At home

On the floor, the bed or the sofa

Anywhere you can lie down flat. A rug or a bed holds it still better than a polished floor.

Sharp for two minutes, then fine

The first time I lay down on it I nearly got straight back up. I stayed, with a T-shirt on, and after a couple of minutes it was just a strong prickly feeling. Now it is part of my evening.

Went for the full body and glad I did

I am six foot two. The long one runs from my shoulders to past my knees, which the regular one would not. It rolls up fine for storage.

The pillow is the part I use most

Half-round, firm, and the discs go all the way along. I use it on its own on the sofa more than I use the mat. One star off because it is firmer than I expected.

I stand on it while the kettle boils

Mat on the kitchen floor, shoes off, five minutes in the morning. It is intense on bare feet at first. It has stayed flat and none of the discs has come loose.

The cover really does come off

Slid the foam out, hand washed the cover in the bath, hung it up to drip dry. Took a day to dry properly. Went back on easily.

Too much for me on bare skin

I cannot do it without a shirt yet. With one it is fine. If you are expecting something soft, it is not — it is a mat covered in hard plastic points, which is what it says it is.

Regular size is enough for my back

I am five foot four and the regular mat covers my back from shoulders to waist. The pillow sits above it for my neck. Compact enough to slide under the bed.

Pillow under the neck, mat under the back

The pillow is about the right height to rest my neck on while I lie on the mat. Both pieces feel well made. Black cover, white discs, looks tidy on the floor.

Wish the cover was machine washable

Hand wash and drip dry only, which is a faff for something you lie on most days. The mat itself is fine. Read the care label before you buy.

Good on the feet, keep it off a slippery floor

On wooden floorboards it slid a little when I stepped on. On a rug it stays put. The points on bare feet take some getting used to.

Takes a few goes

First week I managed five minutes at most. By the third week I could do fifteen. It is not a mat you will enjoy straight away, so give it time.

Fits on a yoga mat

The regular size sits neatly on top of my yoga mat at the end of a session. Light enough to carry around the house.

Questions

Before you order

Does it hurt?

The points are firm plastic, and the first minutes are sharp — that is what the mat is. You can lie on it over a thin layer of clothing until you are used to it, and on a bed or a sofa rather than the floor. ProsourceFit suggests sessions of 10 to 30 minutes.

Which size should I choose?

The regular mat (26½ × 16½ in) covers your back; ProsourceFit describes it as “designed to provide full back massage for all body types”. The full-body mat (51 × 19 in) runs from your back to your legs and suits someone taller. Both come with the same pillow.

Can I stand on it?

Yes. ProsourceFit suggests standing on it in the morning. Take your shoes off and keep your weight spread across both feet.

How long should a session be?

ProsourceFit’s guidance is 10 minutes a day, up to 30.

What is it made of?

A cotton cover over a foam core, with moulded plastic discs sewn to the top. ProsourceFit calls the foam “plant-based eco foam”.

How do I clean it?

Slide the foam core out and hand wash the cover gently — inside out if you like. A soft brush gets between the discs. Drip dry only: no washing machine and no dryer.

What comes in the box?

One mat and one pillow, in the size you choose.

Is it a medical device?

No. It is a massage mat for use at home. It is not intended to diagnose, treat or prevent any condition. If you are pregnant or have a medical or skin condition, ask your doctor before using it.

Is there a warranty?

Yes — a limited lifetime warranty from the manufacturer.
